Appearance of the Typical Mother

One thing I'd like to talk about is the appearance of the "typical mother". No makeup done, hair unkempt, just a general frazzled look. And don't even get me started on "mom jeans".
I refuse, I tell you, REFUSE to look like that! It might just be the girly girl in me, but just because I'm a mother of twins, doesn't mean I have to look like a mother of twins.
You don't have to have a lot of money, most basic products are cheap. And you don't have to have lost the baby weight, just dress for your body type. A little effort goes a long way.
I feel like just because you have kids, does not mean you should let yourself go. I'm not talking about the brand new mother that just brought home a newborn. I know that takes some getting used to. But once you have gotten somewhat established, don't forget about yourself. I feel like the way you present yourself is an expression of who you are and what you're saying to people. If you feel really tired and worn down, I honestly believe that some effort put into your appearance will help the way you feel.
I look at these old pictures of my mom with me and my sister as babies and she always had her hair and makeup done and nails polished. She always put the effort in to look good. She looked happy and confident. She made time for herself, which in turn made her a happier mom. That's something I've always admired about her and something I'd like to pass on to my kids. Making time for yourself is important and it really does help make you feel better. And we all know when mama's happy, everyone's happy!

This is a fantastic post, Tara! Simply wonderful! Helena Rubinstein (one of the most famous and successful women in the cosmetics industry) once said, "There are no ugly women, just lazy ones." She was basically saying that all women can be pretty if they just make an effort. Moms or not, I see so many modern women (and men) who look so unkempt. Fanny packs, crocs, khaki shorts, and like you said, "mom jeans," are not flattering!

And thin or not, if one dresses for her body, she will be so pretty and feel so much better too. Celebrate being alive by celebrating yourself, inside and out!
