Cute Find

I found these adorable pink shorts with anchors all over them on clearance at Walmart for $3! They were even the right size for Lyla!

I couldn't help posting a pic of my model, Lyla, showing them off:

Smoothieaholic

I love fruit smoothies. I started making them soon after I had the twins, to help me lose some baby weight. I mainly made them just to have something healthy to fill me up in between meals so I wasn't snacking on junk food all day.
Well, I lost the baby weight and then some (not just by drinking smoothies... I wish!), but now I'm totally hooked. I make them every single day. I vary the ingredients day to day, but it always involves the Yoplait Smoothie pack, additional fresh organic frozen fruit, organic skim milk, splenda, almonds (my protein since I don't eat meat(except chicken on rare occasion)), and sometimes fat free yogurt, and an extra scoop of protein. Oh and I add about a spoonful of tasteless fiber - this really helps fill you up.

Today I made a berry smoothie which consisted of raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, black berries, and dark pitted cherries. Yummy!!!

I pour it into this 34oz mug. Yup, that's a lot of smoothie. I basically sip on it all day. I was spending way too much money on styrofoam cups, but it took me forever to find a 34oz insulated mug! I finally found one in the clearance section of Walgreens, go figure.

I love how healthy these make me feel, and I have a lot more energy than I would if I were snacking on junk food instead. I <3 my smoothies!

Pin-Up Kitten Boutique

My sister contacted me about an Expo she's doing. Well, the person heading up the expo was short about 3 vendors, so Dana asked me if there's anything I could make and sell or if I had any vintage to sell. Well indeed I do. I've made hair flowers for myself in the past, so I can make some of those. But I have a lot of vintage I need to sell and haven't had the chance to get it on Ebay or Etsy.
So the lady heading up this whole thing asked me if I had a logo for my "business" to contribute to her flyer. So to have a logo, you obviously have to name yourself.
I decided I'd call myself Pin-Up Kitten Boutique. Here's the logo:

I think it's soooo cute!!
Dana helped me with the concept/lettering and Nathan basically did all the design work. He worked on it a long time. I just told him what I want, colors, and placement, etc. He's an expert when it comes to all things graphic/photoshop. I'd say I'm good at that stuff, but not as good as him that's for sure!

I'll have a little booth set up and see what I might be able to sell. This could be fun, and who knows I might turn it into my own little business! lol... I know how much work an actual business takes, and I'm just not sure I have the time or energy for something like that. But things like this expo every now and then could be fun!
It's in a couple weeks, I'm sure I'll have pictures to post.

Kitty of Past and Kitty of Present

I might as well keep with all the other cat posts of today! I too am a "crazy cat lady" even though I only have two. :) My hubby and I are both cat people, so that's nice. We both had dogs and cats growing up, but he left for the Navy for 6 years and when he came back he was deathly allergic to dogs. So, we'll probably always just have cats, even though I really love all animals.

This was Daisy. She was my fire point Persian. She was very sweet, and a scardy cat of most things.

She loved to be brushed and whenever I'd lay down, she'd run over to "spoon".

We went to a baseball game, and this was a picture I took of Daisy wearing the ice cream hat bowl that we got:

And here she is in my house in San Diego:

A few months ago I noticed she had started peeing in random spots in the house. I thought this was very weird behavior since she had never done that before. She's always been litter box trained. Then I started to notice that she wasn't eating her cat food and seemed a lot more lethargic than normal. By the time I had really begun to notice there was a problem (maybe two weeks of this going on) I made an appointment with the vet. The day of her vet appointment, I woke up, came out to the kitchen to prepare bottles and I noticed her curled up in a corner. I said "Hi, Daisy", and she usually would look up at me when I spoke to her but she didn't. So I walked over to her to pet her head and instantly knew. She had passed. She looked so peaceful, just like she was sleeping. I sat on the floor by her and cried. I felt awful. I felt like I hadn't taken her to the vet soon enough. I felt like I should've known it was as bad as it was. I felt like I hadn't given her as much attention as I should have since the babies came. I was riddled with guilt. Even as I type this now, my heart still aches for her. I'm just glad she went quickly and she didn't seem like she was in any pain there at the end.
I'll miss her forever. She was only 10.

On a happier note, this is Zoey, our Bombay that we rescued in Washington when we lived there. She's 5 years old. She is very sweet and doesn't meow, but does a sort of "chirp" sound. She is a total lap cat, and loves to drink water out of the sink faucet. Typical of Bombays, (they love to be hot) she also loves to bury herself deep under covers to sleep. This used to scare me to death when she was kitten, I was worried she wasn't getting enough air!

Here was Zoey trying out the new stroller last year:

She loves her red blanket!

Sticking her tongue out at me:

Online Purrrrrchases

OK, so being that I have twin babies that are not easy to load up in the car by myself, I have been in love with shopping online. So I will probably be posting a lot about things that arrive in the mail. :)

Today I got my tea set. I'm not a collector of tea things, I only have one teapot. But I just thought this was so cute. It's whimsical and fun, and I simply can't resist most polka dot type products.

It was only $23 for a 12 piece set!

I think these will go great in my vintage curio that I hope to someday get!

Stella & Dot

My sister, Dana, is a stylist with Stella & Dot. They have really beautiful jewelry. They just released their fall line and there are some very cute vintage inspired items. I just ordered two things. I LOVE sparkly jewelry!! :):)

The Vintage Twist Bracelet in silver: (The gold one is so pretty too)

The Fiona Ring:

They also have these really pretty starburst broach's. I'm not a broach person, but maybe it would work in my hair or something. I've also used a broach before as a purse clasp:

If you want to check out the rest of her line of jewelry visit http://www.stelladot.com/danaingrid

My Top 7 Cosmetics

I love good makeup. I'm not a snob to any particular brand, I'll try anything. In fact my favorite lip gloss I got at the dollar store. Here is a list of my current favorite cosmetics, in no particular order. These are just basics that I use most often. (Please tell me yours! I'd love to hear what your favs cosmetics are!)

1. Foundation: Covergirl liquid powder foundation in creamy natural. I've been using this for about 10 years now I think.

2. Powder: Covergirl Simply Powder in creamy natural. I've been using this for about 10 years also.

3. Eyeshadow: Covergirl eye enhancers in snow blossom. I've been using this for about a year.

4. Eyeliner: Almay intense eyeliner in black pearl. I also use the liquid one.

5. Mascara: Maybelline Colossal in black. My mom put this in my Christmas stocking and I've been using it ever since. There are a couple new mascaras on the market I'd like to try, so we'll see if this changes.

6. Bronzer: I'm a sucker for bronzer. I just love it! Covergirl Trueblend in 435:

7. Lip stick/gloss: This is hard because sometimes I wear red, sometimes pink, sometimes berry and sometimes just gloss. The one I use most often is LA colors glitter gloss in pink. I love it! And it tastes like bubble gum. Best of all, I can get it at the Dollar Tree!

As far as blush goes, I don't have any particular favorites. Right now I'm using one my mom gave me from Estee Lauder. It's a pretty wine color.
I also don't really have a favorite for brow pencil, I think the one I'm using is covergirl in light brunette. My eyeshadows are pretty inter-changeable also. I have a few from Sephora that I really like.

What are your favorites???? I'd love to hear about them! :)

Cupcakes!

Cupcakes are the best! They are sweet and delicious and I love making them because you can do so many different colors, patterns, and flavors!

Here are my recent cupcakes I made for my friend Tina's birthday party. They are cherry chip white cake with cherry icing and pink sugar crystals.

I made these really awesome tiffany blue colored cupcakes for a Stella & Dot party for my sister. The color took me about an hour to get perfect. For the life of me I can't find the pictures, but this is pretty much what they looked like (without the white balls and the icing was a bit more creamy):

For Halloween last year I made eyeball cupcakes:

Zeus

We just got a 2 month old Bengal kitten. His name is Zeus but we call him Zsu Zsu (It's a Wonderful Life) for short. Nathan and I have been wanting a Bengal for a while now. We thought we'd wait until the kids are older so they could pick one out, but then we realized we'd be waiting like 10 years. Since Daisy (my fire point Persian) died a few months ago, we figured we could go ahead and get a kitten now.
He is very sweet, but VERY vocal. He meows all the time. I'm hoping it's just because he's new here and learning his way around and getting used to us. He's a total lap cat though and loves to snuggle.
Zoey, our Bombay other cat, is just barely tolerating him. She hasn't warmed up yet, but I'm hoping she will soon.
Bengal's have a leopard like coat. His rosettes, as their called, will get darker and more defined as he gets older.

Here's what an older Bengal looks like:

Appearance of the Typical Mother

One thing I'd like to talk about is the appearance of the "typical mother". No makeup done, hair unkempt, just a general frazzled look. And don't even get me started on "mom jeans".
I refuse, I tell you, REFUSE to look like that! It might just be the girly girl in me, but just because I'm a mother of twins, doesn't mean I have to look like a mother of twins.
You don't have to have a lot of money, most basic products are cheap. And you don't have to have lost the baby weight, just dress for your body type. A little effort goes a long way.
I feel like just because you have kids, does not mean you should let yourself go. I'm not talking about the brand new mother that just brought home a newborn. I know that takes some getting used to. But once you have gotten somewhat established, don't forget about yourself. I feel like the way you present yourself is an expression of who you are and what you're saying to people. If you feel really tired and worn down, I honestly believe that some effort put into your appearance will help the way you feel.
I look at these old pictures of my mom with me and my sister as babies and she always had her hair and makeup done and nails polished. She always put the effort in to look good. She looked happy and confident. She made time for herself, which in turn made her a happier mom. That's something I've always admired about her and something I'd like to pass on to my kids. Making time for yourself is important and it really does help make you feel better. And we all know when mama's happy, everyone's happy!
